Where The Wild Things Are on Ellen

The new trailer for Where The Wild Things are premiered on Ellen about an hour and a half ago. Its posted on the Ellen site but not embeddable so follow this link. This film looks brilliant.

I love the snow, I don’t care what you think.

I am truly flabbergasted at the skill of Aoyama Hina. All of these papercut works are done with scissors. Browse the flickr set and be amazed.

Happy New Year!

Here are two of Liam’s videos from out west, Van-side. The second has a less obvious hint of thievery. I’ve been meaning to post these for about six-hundred years but I’m a twit. Sorry. I love you Liam, you’re brilliant.

Tiny Things

I’m leaving for jasper in about an hour and I made some damn tasty cookies for the road. Make some yourself and enjoy the Christmasiness of today.

Tiny Showcase has released their winter print collection. The proceeds from these works are going toward Doctors Without Borders. I like “Texas” by Chi Birmingham. The tiny tractors remind me of the selective focus videos of Keith Loutit that have been bouncing around the internet lately. Stop motion aesthetic with real world subjects.

Snow Day #1

It snowed! The Cold, Brown Remnants of Fall Spirit has finally been replaced by the Christmas Spirit. I hope the snow stays around.

Christmas aside, I’ve wanted to post this vid about Invader’s QR code pieces for a while now. I love clever humans who make clever things.

Leeside

Liam posted this beautiful mini-doc on Vancouver’s leeside. Awesome, awesome, awesome. I want to get on building something like this around here. Really, really good work Liam.

December now.

Have you ever had a project that you neglected for so long that it developed into a game you play with yourself? How long can I push this before it gets ridiculous? At a point you have to get over it and do something. For the isle it’s been a sort of internet depression/cynicism that has kept me away. I’m sorry, and I’m lame. Maybe slow starts are best.

I’m listening to Leonard Cohen and waiting for Coffee to brew up. Happy December.

Chad Vangaalen

I’ve been listening to a lot of Chad Vangaalen this week. I’m a believer. Rare Genius. He animates his own videos. The first is scary and from his new album. The second is less scary and from an older one.

Movies, good and bad news.

A facebook message from Scott Gallant: “beautiful losers movie at the metro on oct 11. lets ride our ten speeds there with our flannel button ups, jeans sightly rolled up, and pbr’s tilted up. it will be a hipster holiday.” Are artists necessarily hipsters? Anyway, October 11. Metro Cinema. Be there. Meanwhile, if you have not read this Adbusters article yet do so and hang your head. Or just go dance.

I guess we’re waiting a while for Where The Wild Things Are.

Finally, finally there is a Criterion Collection edition of Bottle Rocket. It features a bunch of goodies including “Original artwork by Ian Dingman” who, buy the way has a grip of wonderful pieces for sale on his site. I want to know where the Criterion Darjeeling is?
