Tesla and his magical mystery koopas

I’ve been studying Nikola Tesla a bit. I would love to see a show with a musical tesla coil. The Faunts have a theremin, would a coil be that far off? Hey Scott, if I build one can I be in the band?

WK vs. Obey

I snaked this video from Wooster today. Shepard Fairey Vs. WK Interact.

Blizzkolay

My good friend Ryan sent some pretty photos of the recent Edmonton blizzard. Ryan’s got a box full of rad pictures so I hope we’ll see some more up in here.

Capa vs. Prosofsky

Four of Evan’s photos were lost on their way to me. The lost photos are up now on the shutterbuds page.

The New York Times site has an article on another lost and found cache of photos. Robert Capa, a Spanish civil war photographer, left a suitcase of negatives in Paris in 1939. The negatives have recently surfaced in Mexico and are now in Manhattan. Read the article here.

Shutterbuds Now Up

On top of being an amazingly creative filmmaker and possessing a mean fakie 5-0, Evan Prosofsky makes Polaroid 600 dance. I’m glad that he is our very first shutterbuddy.

Send photos. I’m going to figure out a better way to display them but for now you can just click around the shutterbuds page.

Cameras are just about the most wonderful invention ever. I love them. You love them. Shutterbuds is a club for photo lovers and photo friends. Send pictures to the Isle and we will start a club gallery page for everyone’s pleasure.

Streetsy

See the artwork at the top of your screen? With the two guys there? I made that as a temporary start up thing. I want to replace it with an animated scrolling thing that’s made up of a bunch of Edmonton art. If you’re awesome or just sub-awesome and feigning awesomeness send me something and I’ll see if I can set it up. Also, continue to send suggestions, tips, whatever about what’s going on in this city.

I hate killing time but I love getting inspired. One of my favorite sites to do both is Streetsy.com. It’s a site built around independent submissions of street artists around the world. Streetsy’s flickr page is a little easier to navigate.

Edmonton has a similar albeit smaller collection on flickr: Edmonton Alberta Graffiti, Stencils and Such. Check it out, garner inspiration, see if you recognize anything.

Art Show at Avenue Skatepark next month. Details soon.

Thanks for the link Michelle.

Darthic Youth

Summer is coming.

“Those are my guys”

Revs is a tagger come sculptor working in New York City. Streetsy has some of Revs’ new sculptural tags up today. I think some of the New York stereotypes originated in Revs.

Design Grad Show

I went to the AGA today and lurked around the U of A design show. I loved it. Some bloody brilliant work. It is definitly worth a look. I couldn’t find any links for you but its just in the atrium / lobby area of the AGA. I tried to see Generation and Small but didn’t have time so I opted out.

Redrawing the line made me think of this old video:
